Here’s what I love about this sign: It is (was?) a sign for a place where remnants of the city’s past were kept but, as Ed Koch hasn’t been mayor for nearly 20 years, the sign itself is now a remnant of the city’s past.

“ No man likes to be beaten. But to be beaten by the man who has always stood as the particular example of mediocrity in his eyes, to start by the side of this mediocrity and to watch it shoot up, while he struggles and gets nothing but a boot in his face, to see the mediocrity snatch from him, one after another, the chances he’d give his life for, to see the mediocrity worshipped…. ”

“ Apple sold 1,000,000 iPhone 3Gs in a weekend. Allow me to repeat that: Apple sold 1,000,000 iPhone 3Gs in a weekend. If you haven’t got it already, it’s time to move your head to this place: iPhone OS is Apple’s mainstream platform for 2012 and beyond. It’s a bold prediction, but the numbers seem fairly clear. ”

I’d like a job as an “experience mover.” I think I’d be good at it.

“You cringe over the price of a gallon of gas, but what about a gallon of Visine? An article in the September issue of ShopSmart shows that if you bought the eye drops by the gallon, the price would be $1,021. Steak sauce? $48. Secret Platinum, $189. Obviously, no one buys Visine by the gallon, except for maybe Cyclops (hey, that stick still burns). Similiarly, except for hobbyists, no one buys a dropper of gasoline. And there are cost-savings by selling and buying items in bulk. Still, makes you think…”
